Anthony Richardson shares advice he received from Teddy Bridgewater

Like many young NFL quarterbacks, when Anthony Richardson first got into the NFL, he went looking to veteran players for advice. That included from Teddy Bridgewater.

While making an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Richardson shared that Bridgewater wanted him to remember that everyone’s career is unique, so he needs to remember his journey won’t be exactly the same as any other quarterback.

“Surprisingly, I talked to Teddy B one time,” Anthony Richardson said. “He gave me some great advice. He said, ‘Everybody’s journey is their own journey.'”

At one point, Teddy Bridgewater was an up-and-coming quarterback in the NFL in his own right. However, a massive non-contact injury derailed his development. He later went on to have a career as a journeyman quarterback for a total of seven different teams.

For his part, there are high hopes for Anthony Richardson after he was selected in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. However, injuries derailed his rookie season in its own right.

“I was asking for some advice just to see how to get my NFL career started. He was like, ‘It’s yours. It’s your career. So, it’s gonna be different than mine. So, just live it up every day.’ That was the main thing I took from it. Then, all the guys, the relationships we’re building now in the locker room is just phenomenal. So, I’m just excited to see what we’re gonna do on the field.”

What is interesting is the connection that quarterbacks seem to have across the NFL in offering advice to the next generation. After all, Bridgewater and Richardson haven’t been teammates, so the willingness to share knowledge is by no means a mandatory thing for Bridgewater.

On Indianapolis’ roster, there have been some veteran quarterbacks in their own right for Anthony Richardson to lean on. That includes Joe Flacco and Gardner Minshew.

“The crazy thing about Gardner, we trained in the same place, when I was at UF. He was training with (Quarterback Coach) Denny [Thompson] when I was training with Denny. So I like, got to watch him throw a little bit. It was like, he’s an interesting guy. Once I got to Indy and I saw him, I was like, ‘Okay, he definitely is a cool, interesting guy.’ But just learning some different stuff from him. He’s a smart guy, so I tried to implement that in my style of play, and my type of study, just watching him last year,” Richardson said.

“And now having Joe, it’s like, you know that’s a legend right there, and I get to sit next to him in the locker room and just ask questions. Like, it’s amazing.”
