Anthony Richardson shows off his wheels with two rushing touchdowns in 1Q vs. Texans
Indianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson is off to a hot start in Week 2, accounting for both of his team’s first quarter scores against the Houston Texans.
Richardson’s first touchdown scamper came on the opening drive of the game, an 18-yard run to give the Colts a 7-0 lead after the PAT. He followed that up with a 15-yard touchdown run to extend their lead to 14-0.
Richardson, the Colts’ fourth overall selection in April’s NFL Draft out of Florida, has now compiled four touchdowns (three rushing) in the first five quarters of his career. Suffice to say, not bad for a signal-caller viewed as a project entering the league.
But as Richardson adjusts to the NFL game as a passer, he has his legs to lean on. That certainly hasn’t disappointed, with the 6-foot-4, 244-pounder reaching a top speed of 19.15 mph on his first touchdown run. According to Nex Gen Stats, the average quarterback would have scored only 1.8% of the time.

Anthony Richardson exits Week 2 with concussion
Turns out, that knee appears to be just fine after he injured it in the 31-21 Week 1 defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday. Richardson, however, is dealing with a new issue. He exited the game in the second quarter against the Texans and was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion. After evaluation, it was determined that Richardson did indeed suffer a concussion, knocking him out of the game for good. Richardson suffered the concussion after banging his helmet on the field during his second touchdown run.
With Richardson sidelined, Indianapolis has turned to backup quarterback Gardner Minshew. Minshew signed a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the Colts this offseason. The 2019 sixth-round pick has appeared in 33 games (24 starts) during his career, throwing for 6,632 yards with 44 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
