Colt McCoy earns odd distinction with win over Seahawks in Seattle

The Arizona Cardinals have been without starting quarterback Kyler Murray for three consecutive weeks now, dealing with an injury. Veteran Colt McCoy has been given the reigns to Kliff Kingsbury’s offense and got a win on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

According to Arizona Cardinals SVP Mark Dalton, McCoy is the only NFL quarterback (including Seahawk QBs) to win a start at Seattle each of the last 2 regular seasons. Before getting a win on Sunday, McCoy got a win with the New York Giants last season.

Where the stat can get confusing is with Russell Wilson. He has yet to win a home game this season, going 0-3 and spending time on the IR. For now, McCoy will have the honor of being the Seahawks’ killer.

McCoy had a career day, throwing for 328 yards and two touchdowns on 35 of 44 passing. In the two games he has played in place of Murray, the Cardinals hold a 2-1 record and remain atop the NFC standings.

With a bye on tap for Arizona, Murray will now have a full two weeks to get healthy. McCoy’s stint as the starting quarterback is likely over, barring a setback.

If you ask Arizona head coach Kliff Kingsbury, it was another great day for Texas Longhorns fans, even if their team is struggling right now.

After defeating the San Fransisco 49ers in Week 9, Kingsbury said watching McCoy’s performance was a positive for the Longhorns, who were fresh off a loss to Iowa State.

On that day, McCoy finished with 249 passing yards and a touchdown on 22/26 passing. Even dealing with an injury himself, he was able to put up even better numbers two weeks later against Seattle.

As for the shot toward Texas, Kingsbury is just remembering his roots from his Texas Tech days. Being starting quarterback from 2000-2002, he was 1-2 against the Longhorns. During his six years as the Red Raiders head coach, Kingsbury dropped four out of the six matchups.

Nonetheless, the opportunity to troll an old conference rival out of left field is too good to pass up for somebody like Kingsbury.
