Arkansas WR Jadon Haselwood signs deal following NFL Draft

The Philadelphia Eagles are banking on former Arkansas standout Jadon Haselwood coming in and making a roster spot in fall camp. That’s why they took a chance on him as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft. The former Arkansas and Oklahoma star signed a contract as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday night, On3’s Matt Zenitz reported. He finished his 2022 campaign second on the Hogs in receiving yards (702) and three touchdowns. Haselwood spent his first three seasons of college football with the Oklahoma Sooners.

Considering his lofty recruiting ranking coming out of high school, Haselwood’s numbers for the Sooners were quite underwhelming, to say the least. In 2021, he hauled in 39 catches for 399 receiving yards and a team-best six touchdowns. During his sophomore season in 2020, he missed the first six games while recovering from a lower leg injury. Haselwood played in three games, hauling in four catches for 65 yards. In 2019, during his freshman campaign with Oklahoma, he played in 13 of 14 games, hauling in 19 catches for 272 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Coming out of Cedar Grove High School (Atlanta, Georgia), Haselwood was one of the most highly regarded wide receiver prospects in the country. He was invited to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and invited to The Opening, one of the nation’s elite prospect camps.

His senior season, he hauled in 1,032 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. When he chose Oklahoma, he chose them over offers from Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and others. In the 2019 recruiting cycle, Haselwood was rated as the No. 1 wide receiver prospect in the country and a five-star recruit, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

It’s worth nothing that former Georgia wide receiver Terrence Edwards gave Haselwood a massive compliment by saying he was the best high school receiver prospect he had seen since A.J. Green. You can find the compliment in his bio section on his NFL.com profile.

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Jadon Haselwood

NFL.com analyst Lance Zierlein gave a brief breakdown of Haselwood in his scouting profile of him on the NFL website. He noted that while Haselwood has good size at 6-foot-2, 215 lbs., his lack of speed (4.66 40-yard dash) or separation burst will hurt his ability to stay open against man coverages in the NFL.

“Big possession target requiring work from the slot to create catch opportunities. Haselwood has good size and the strength to make contested catches underneath, but he lacks the speed or separation burst to uncover and stay open against NFL man coverage. His testing could make a difference for him, but a lack of special teams’ experience could hurt his cause to make it as a WR5/6,” Zierlein wrote.
