A different kind of playoff football will be coming to Arlington’s AT&T Stadium in a couple of years. The home of the Dallas Cowboys will be the home of the 2026 World Cup Final, according to a report from The Sun.

More details about the World Cup Final are expected to be revealed next month, according to the report. New York and Miami were also reportedly options for the event.

AT&T Stadium has a retractable roof, making the venue weatherproof. It holds more than 100,000 people, counting standing-room-only tickets.

In addition to Cowboys games, AT&T Stadium is home to several other events, including concerts, other sporting events and more.

The 2026 World Cup will feature 48 teams. Soccer’s biggest tournament will take place in June and July of 2026.

The World Cup has previously had 32 teams but is expanding by 16. The 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups, with four teams each. The top two teams in each group will automatically advance to the round of 32, as will the top eight teams that finish in the third spot.

In addition to AT&T Stadium, the 2026 World Cup will also have games played in Toronto (Canada), Vancouver (Canada), Mexico City (Mexico), Zapopan (Mexico), Guadalupe (Mexico), Atlanta (United States), Foxborough (United States), Houston (United States), Kansas City (United States), Inglewood (United States), Miami Gardens (United States), East Rutherford (United States), Philadelphia (United States), Santa Clara (United States) and Seattle (United States).

The World Cup has been held every four years since 1930. It is a tournament that features the top players in the world, competing for their country.

Argentina won the most recent World Cup Final in 2022, beating France in a penalty shootout.

Prior to that, France won the 2018 World Cup, while Germany won in 2014 and Spain in 2010.

The United States has never won the World Cup or even reached the finals. It would obviously be special, although unlikely, if that happens in 2026.

AT&T Stadium is no stranger to hosting soccer events. In the past, it has hosted CONCACAF Gold Cup matches and other friendlies. There will also be Copa América games played there later this year.

With that said, the World Cup Final in 2026 will be far and away the biggest soccer event to be played at AT&T Stadium and arguably the biggest event that has been played there, regardless of sport.
