The Milwaukee Brewers had previously drafted Holton before. They did so in the 19th round of the 2021 MLB Draft when he came out of Benedictine Military. However, he elected to go to college and spent the last three years pitching for the Commodores.
Holton appeared in 41 games with 39 of those being starts. In those outings at right at 200 innings pitched, he posted a record of 18-10. His statistics included a 4.09 ERA, although it went up in each season as he had his highest this last season as a junior at 5.19. With nearly 3,400 pitches thrown, he threw over 2,100 strikes, which averages out to a strike percentage of 62.6%, for 251 career strikeouts, including a high of 98 in 2024.
MLB.com had Holton as the No. 69 overall prospect and a Top-30 pitcher in this class. In their evaluation of him, they assessed his pitches and how he could project at this next level.

“Holton’s fastball operates at 93-95 mph and tops out at 98 with some arm-side run. He misses more bats with a low-80s slider that features horizontal and vertical action and shuts down left-handers,” they wrote. “His upper-70s curveball was a solid offering in the past before regressing in 2023, and he also owns a sinking mid-80s changeup.”
“Though scouts believe in Holton’s stuff and competitive makeup, there are questions about his viability as a long-term starter. He’s undersized at 5-foot-11 and missed time last spring, and he uses unorthodox tilt and a high arm slot in his delivery to create leverage,” they noted. “His mechanics can hamper his control and command, though he’s throwing more strikes than ever in 2024.”
