Atlanta Falcons sign DL Delontae Scott
The Atlanta Falcons signed edge rusher Delontae Scott to the 90-man roster this week. XFL owner Dwayne Johnson posted about the signing on X, announcing Scott as the league’s 54th NFL contract since the end of the season.
“Proud to help create the #LeagueofOpportunity,” Johnson shared. “Ball out, D- go get that DUB big fella.”
Scott, who played his college football at SMU, had 36 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and two forced fumbles for the XFL’s San Antonio Brahmas this season.
Prior to starring for the Brahmas defense, the new Falcon signed practice squad deals with multiple NFL teams, including the Green Bay Packers, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Carolina Panthers. He made the active roster on multiple occasions but doesn’t have a stat recorded in a regular season game yet.
In 2019, Scott’s final season for SMU, he led the Mustangs in tackles for loss with 18 and added 10 sacks.
Making the signing for Scott possible, the Falcons made a group of roster moves this week. They placed wide receiver Frank Darby, center Matt Hennessy, and linebacker Adetokunbo Ogundeji on injured reserve. Atlanta also cut offensive lineman LaColby Tucker.
The Falcons have been very active so far this spring with their transactions. On top of signing Scott, they also signed defensive end Demone Harris, defensive back Blessuan Austin, and linebacker Frank Ginda.
The deadline for teams across the league to narrow down rosters is right around the corner. Although there is only one cut date now, the rosters will thin down from 90 to 53 men on Aug. 29.

Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson sidelined
After opening the preseason with a 19-3 victory over the Miami Dolphins, the Falcons are still finding out what, and who works. They’ll host the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday night, then close out preseason play with another home game against the Steelers.
Atlanta Falcons running back Cordarrelle Patterson will miss a couple of weeks as he deals with a soft tissue injury, coach Arthur Smith revealed Wednesday. That will keep him out of the remaining two preseason games and Smith said he will be re-evaluated before the regular season.
Patterson is one of four Falcons players currently sidelined by a soft tissue injury along with cornerbacks Mike Hughes and Cornell Armstrong and receiver Frank Darby.
With Patterson out for the rest of the preseason, running backs Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier should see most of the reps. The No. 8 overall pick out of Texas this offseason, Robinson is expected to step in immediately as Atlanta’s starter in his rookie season.
Patterson was the Falcons’ starting running back this past season, rushing for a career-high 695 yards and eight touchdowns. The four-time Pro Bowler figures to still play a role in the backfield behind Robinson, as well as a receiver and return man. His nine career kickoffs returned for a touchdown are the most of any player in NFL history.
