The 89th edition of The Iron Bowl will kick off next weekend with Auburn traveling to Tuscaloosa to play at Alabama. While there’s still a game in between for both, though, Vegas has already released a line for the next matchup in one of the best rivalries in college sports.

Per the odds at FanDuel, the Crimson Tide are a 14.5-point favorite at home over the Tigers. That has Auburn at (+440) on the moneyline. The over-under for the game is set at a total of 52.5 points.

Not only is this a rivalry game but it’s one that, assuming chalk this weekend, will affect the SEC Championship and the College Football Playoff.

‘Bama is currently at No. 7 in the latest rankings for the CFP. With that, they’re two games away from being one of the most likely options to play in the conference championship before making the bracket with a regular-season record of 10-2 overall.

However, War Eagle would love nothing more than to go on the road and ruin that for the Tide by giving them that third loss in the season finale.

Again, Alabama is at 8-2 overall this fall in the debut season for Kalen DeBoer. They did have a three-game skid where they took both of their losses and nearly took another at Vanderbilt, against South Carolina, and at Tennessee. Still, they’ve won each of their last three by an average margin of 36 points, including two against opponents ranked at the time in the Top-25. Include that win over Georgia earlier in the season and it’s a resumé that has them in the field for the playoff.

As for Auburn, they haven’t had the success that they’ve wanted in year two for Hugh Freeze. The Tigers are at 4-6 overall, including just one win in conference play to this point, after a start at 2-5. That has them in need of winning out over this weekend versus Texas A&M as well as this next one in T-Town in order to even be bowl-eligible this season.
