The night games in The Maui Invitational have resulted in a top-twelve matchup in the semifinals between No. 4 Auburn and No. 12 North Carolina tonight. Only one of the two will have the chance to win the event, though, depending on who takes it later today.

Neither were almost in the winner’s bracket, though, with how the quarterfinal games started for the Tigers and Tar Heels.

Auburn played the tougher game in a top-five matchup between them and No. 5 Iowa State. The Cyclones got up as much as 18 in the first half. The Tigers came out of halftime with a 20-4 run to tie it, though, and, with it being a back-and-forth game for the rest of the way, won it at 83-81 off of a tip-in at the rim from Johni Broome. Broome finished with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds with two assists, blocks, and steals apiece while four of his teammates scored a dozen or more too.

North Carolina also faced a massive deficit against Dayton. The Flyers were up as much as 21 points on UNC in the second half. That was before the Tar Heels closed the game at 57-34 run over the 17 and a half minutes to end the game to win at 92-90 in regulation. RJ Davis finished with a season-high of 30 points with seven rebounds, five assists, and a steal while Seth Trimble had a career-best game with a 27-point, 10-rebound double-double.
