Austin Cindric may receive a penalty from NASCAR for what he did to Ty Dillon during the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA). During Lap 4, Cindric hooked Dillon after he was shoved off the track.

“Wow, both the replay and the Austin Cindric in-car do not look good,” Jeff Gluck of The Athletic wrote on X/Twitter. “He got forced off the track by Ty Dillon and then appears to have right-rear hooked him. Nothing was said on the radio about it. That’s going to get reviewed this week for sure.”

Austin Cindric was looking to have a showing at COTA. The 26-year-old has done well at the road course, finishing in the top 10 in 2022 and 2023.

Austin Cindric talks Atlanta wreck with Kyle Larson

After earning a playoff berth and finishing 11th in the standings last year, Cindric is ready to take that next step in 2025. In this year’s Daytona 500, Cindric earned a P8 finish. Last week, Cindric was looking to earn another top-10 finish, but a wreck with Kyle Larson prevented that from happening.

“I felt like I could have said a lot more than I did,” Cindric told reporters last week about his conversation with Larson. “I like to honestly keep that behind closed doors, so maybe if you felt like I spoke up and I felt like I was holding back, that tells you how upset I was with the situation. It’s still something I’m relatively upset about and gets the blood pressure going a little bit. But that’s racing. I mean, I’m not the only one that’s been in those positions and felt like they haven’t been able to capitalize on an opportunity to win a race or had somebody else be the cause of that. It doubles down with it being two weeks in a row. At this level, race wins don’t fall out of the sky.”

Austin Cindric is emerging as one of the top young drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series. In 115 starts, the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year has won two races (including the 2022 Daytona 500) while earning 22 top-10 finishes.
