Amid the struggles for Richard Childress Racing, Austin Dillon is confirming his commitment to the team and teasing changes. Is there anything this NASCAR team can do to turn things around?

Currently 32nd in points, Austin Dillon has had better seasons than this one. Kyle Busch definitely has had better seasons than the one he is having in 2024. Competition director Andy Petree decided to retire effective immediately a couple of weeks ago.

During an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Dillon told Danielle Trotta about his plans moving forward. He has two more years on his contract and he intends to see it out to the end in the No. 3 car.

Dillon apparently hinted at big changes coming to the competition side of things in 2025. He also confirmed that Kyle Busch is committed to making the organization better.

Austin Dillon and Kyle Busch have had falloffs in performance in 2024. There have been rumors that Dillon might be wanting to get out of the racecar and into an administrative role at RCR. However, that appears to not be true, at least not soon.

Austin Dillon might stay at RCR too long

I believe that RCR has to be careful in these next two years. You could lose Kyle Busch, for one. Two, if Dillon stays in that seat and Jesse Love or Austin Hill get tired of waiting around for an open Cup Series ride at RCR, they might just go to the next highest bidder.

Of course, losing out on Love is worse than Hill. Mostly because of age and overall upside. Still, those are two in-house drivers who might decide to move on if Childress doesn’t move into the future soon.

As for the addition to the competition side of things, it better be a home run. It feels like RCR needs to shine new light on everything, but one or two hires could change the direction of an organization.

I’m not trying to be alarmist. But the results at Richard Childress Racing speak for themselves. Kyle Busch won three races last season. Now he’s struggling to make the top-10 most weeks. That isn’t ideal and it isn’t how you inspire confidence in the future of an organization.

I’m not a Cup Series owner, I have no idea how to run an organization like that. It is painfully obvious that major changes are needed at Richard Childress Racing. I’m not sure Austin Dillon staying in the No. 3 car for two more years is the best way to go about things. Especially with talent like Love waiting in the wings.
