Austin Dillon reacts to Joey Logano throwing 'low blows' in postrace interview'
Joey Logano was heated after Austin Dillon intentionally wrecked him on the final lap of Sunday’s Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway, calling the move “chickenshit” among other things.
Logano further assailed against Dillon for thanking God and “praising everything with his baby,” which Dillon told Kevin Harvick on his “Happy Hour” podcast he felt was a low blow.
“I thought Denny’s [Hamlin] interview was pretty solid,” Dillon said Monday. “Joey, I don’t know. I thought he threw some low blows in there; you know obviously frustrated in the moment. But the two guys I got into it with have done a lot that I’ve learned from on the last lap of the races themselves. I’ve heard Joey’s interviews, ‘How bad do you want it? You gotta do whatever it takes.’ Different things and seen him do it at Martinsville and different places on the last corner. So, this time he was a victim of it and sometimes it happens and you gotta handle things. How would I have handled my interview after the race in that situation? I don’t know.
“It’s frustrating for anybody that’s involved in that. But he’s got a lot more wins than I do and a championship. If he retaliates, he retaliates. I think my grandfather’s [Richard Childress] hilarious; you know he said something, ‘You might kick a dog, but he’ll bite back at some point.’ His quotes are always the greatest.”
In Logano’s mind, he had every right to be upset. Dillon not only cost him the victory but did so in questionable fashion. Dillon, meanwhile, clinched his spot in the Cup Series playoffs after entering the race 32nd in the points standings.

Austin Dillon upset with Joey Logano for revving engine on pit road
But before his postrace comments, Logano decided to rev his engine on pit road near a crowd of crew members, as well as Dillon’s family. On-car footage has since emerged of the incident showing Logano getting into a fiery confrontation with a NASCAR official. NASCAR is expected to make a ruling Tuesday on a possible punishment for Logano.
Dillon, who took the checkered flag after wrecking Logano and then Hamlin immediately after, took issue with Logano taking out his frustrations on pit road in front of his wife and daughter.
“The only thing that did piss me off about Joey was when he came through there, my wife and kid were headed across to get to cross, and he revved the engine up right in front of my kid and Johnny Morris and those people,” Dillon said. “I get it. You got to be mad and upset but do it like in an interview or talk to me about it. You got to be careful on pit road with that type of stuff.”
