Bad weather could impact Crayon 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway
Another week and another threat of heavy rain to put a damper on the NASCAR weekend. This time in New Hampshire for the Crayon 301. It seems that NASCAR cannot avoid the rain and this has caused plenty of fans to wonder why scheduling and other factors can’t be changed on a moment’s notice.
Right now, it looks like Saturday’s events are going to be just fine. However, it appears that it is going to rain and possibly storm all day on Sunday for the Crayon 301. That means we might be looking at a Monday start once again. NASCAR tries its best to avoid them, but when Mother Nature refuses to cooperate, things happen.
The forecast for Sunday right now has the weather in the 70s with a 95% chance of rain when the afternoon rolls around. It doesn’t appear that it is going to stop much on Sunday, meaning other plans will have to be made.
New Hampshire Motor Speedway is a short track. So, there is a possibility NASCAR breaks out the wet weather package for the Crayon 301. Cars will be equipped with rain tires, windshield wipers, as well as blinking red lights on their cars. We could hear the call to postpone the race as early as Sunday morning.
Fans don’t want to see races shortened or postponed. So, what is the solution here with the Crayon 301? With all that goes into a NASCAR weekend between the teams, TV production, the crews for TV and every team, medical personnel, security, concessions, and all that goes into making a race happen – not a lot can be done on short notice.

Crayon 301 might be next weather victim on NASCAR schedule
This marks three weeks in a row now that storms have messed up a NASCAR weekend. Chicago was flooded with an unreal amount of rain that ultimately cut the Xfinity Series and Cup Series races short. Just last week, the amazing race in Atlanta was cut short due to rain. Once again, here we are for the Crayon 301.
Like I said, there isn’t much that NASCAR is able to do here. Even though fans online will have a million solutions to the problem, it just doesn’t make sense logistically.
NASCAR, with 24 hours notice, can move the start of a race up by an hour. However, with rain and storms expected all day, that’s not much help. What if we moved to earlier starts? Well, NASCAR gets more viewers with slightly later start times and that means more money for advertisers and the folks that make this operation go around.
It doesn’t help that there are no lights at New Hampshire, so sundown at about 8:20 in the evening is the last call for this event.
The Crayon 301 is going to happen. It might just have to happen on Monday instead of Sunday.
