As he was wrapping up an interview on NFL Network Tuesday, Baker Mayfield was asked to help tease an Antoine Winfield interview. He decided to share a story – a funny one, at that.

Mayfield recalled a time in June when he and Winfield were both leaving at the same time. The two made their way through the parking lot, and at some point, their cars ended up colliding. It was just a light bump, but there was still contact.

After it happened, though, Mayfield said Winfield’s reaction showed the type of teammate he is. It was quite the way to head into commercial break before Winfield stepped up to the set.

“Apparently, I don’t know how to pull out of a parking lot because in June, I clipped his car just to pay him back for it,” Mayfield said. “But he’s an unbelievable guy. He’s like, ‘Bro, no problem,’ with a smile on his face. … He’s an unbelievable guy and such a great football player, and just an unbelievable leader. Another guy we’re lucky to have.”

Mayfield and Winfield are both back after big 2023 seasons in Tampa Bay en route to Pro Bowl appearances. Mayfield completed 64.3% of his passes for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns while only throwing 10 interceptions to lead the offense after signing a one-year contract. On the defensive side, Winfield led the Buccaneers with three interceptions to go with 122 tackles, which ranked second on the team.

After the season, Tampa Bay made sure to keep Mayfield in town by signing him to a three-year, $100 million contract. It was a big reward for the former Oklahoma star, who took a long and winding road to his role with the Buccaneers.

As for how he’s preparing for Year 2 in Tampa, Baker Mayfield said he’s feeling better than he has in some time. Physically, he’s ready to take on the season after helping lead the Buccaneers to a playoff appearance a season ago.

“I definitely am in the best shape I’ve been in a long time,” Mayfield said, via Adam Silvon of pewterreport.com. “I just found my routine, found a gym and some trainers that I really like and it’s important. You learn that throughout the process [and as] the years go on. Honestly being able to stay in one place throughout the offseason helps, too. I found some great people to help me get to this point.”
