Baker Mayfield, Bryce Young share heartwarming moment after Buccaneers hand Panthers OT loss
Baker Mayfield and Bryce Young shared a cool moment after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. When the two quarterbacks met in the middle of the field, they hugged each other and Mayfield had a message for Young.
“I’m so proud of you dude,” Mayfield told Young. Young had a strong performance on Sunday, throwing for 298 yards and one touchdown in the Panthers’ 26-23 overtime loss. Mayfield threw for 235 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for the Bucs.
Baker Mayfield is playing for his third NFL team after joining the Buccaneers last year. The 29-year-old spent his first four seasons with the Cleveland Browns and was named to the All-Rookie Team in 2018. But his inconsistent play led to the Browns trading Mayfield to the Panthers in 2022. During the 2022 season, Mayfield was waived by the Browns before the Los Angeles Rams claimed him.
Mayfield played well for the Rams, leading to him signing a contract with the Buccaneers last year. He led Tampa Bay to the playoffs in 2023 and was named to his first Pro Bowl after throwing for 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Bryce Young continues to improve during his second season
The Panthers selected Bryce Young No. 1 overall in last year’s draft. During his rookie season, Young struggled as he completed 59.8 percent of his passes for 2,877 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while posting a 2-14 record.
This year, Young started the first two games of the year before being benched for Andy Dalton. He got the job back before the Week 8 game against the Denver Broncos due to Dalton injuring his thumb in a car accident. Young has thrown six touchdowns and three interceptions in his last five games.
“Just the progress that we’re looking for as he continues to earn these moments, then, yeah, he’ll be in there,” Panthers head coach Dave Canales said last week when asked about Young remaining the starting QB, per Panthers.com. “And that’s what I’ve been most excited about is, is that there’s weekly growth that’s happening. And so, we’re just taking it a week at a time. I know that’s been my language, but he’s really taking responsibility for it and pushing us that way.
“And so, the bottom line is, he’s giving us a chance to win.”
