Baker Mayfield rocks Mizzou gear after losing bet on Oklahoma game
On Nov. 9, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-6) quarterback Baker Mayfield watched his Oklahoma Sooners lose to the Missouri Tigers.
And on Wednesday, nearly a month removed from Missouri’s 30-23 victory, Mayfield had to pay a price for the loss — even though he had no hand in it. Mayfield arrived at the podium for his weekly media availability rocking a Missouri sweatshirt on what is a chilly day in the Tampa Bay region, according to Pewter Report. Mayfield lost a bet to team reporter Casey Phillips, prompting him to hold up his end of the bargain.
“It’s definitely not mine,” Mayfield said with a smile. “Let’s get started, please.”
Baker Mayfield banged up after Week 13 win over Panthers
The Oklahoma-Missouri rivalry traces back to their first meeting in 1902, in which Missouri came out on top, 22-5. The two schools played each other nearly every year from 1910 to 2011 before Missouri left the Big 12 for the SEC in 2012, meaning Mayfield never got a chance to experience the rivalry.
With Oklahoma doing the same ahead of the 2024 season, the rivalry was reborn. Missouri got the win in the first matchup in 13 years, and Oklahoma will play host to the Tigers in 2025. We’ll see if Mayfield elects to run it back and maybe it won’t be him wearing Missouri gear next year.
