Baltimore Orioles fan catches foul ball using plate of barbecue
A Baltimore Orioles fan’s craving for barbecue helped him secure a souvenir during a Thursday game against the Houston Astros.
One fan attending Thursday’s game decided to make a stop at the concession stand for some barbecue before making his way to his seat. That decision paid off in multiple ways. Not only did he enjoy some delicious food, but he used his plate to haul in a foul ball.
A ball off the bat of Ryan O’Hearn made its way down the right field line. After the ball bounced a few times, the fan reached his barbecue plate out in order to catch the ball.
It landed directly in the barbecue sauce … and the fan celebrated by taking a swig of his beer. That only felt appropriate.
So, the next time you head to an MLB game without a glove, just grab a plate of barbecue. Apparently it can be just as effective.
It was a pretty good day all around for that Orioles fan. He enjoyed his beer and barbecue, took home a foul ball and saw his favorite team post a 5-4 victory over the Astros. Not a bad way to spend a Thursday afternoon, if you ask us.
Orioles fans show support for broadcaster Kevin Brown
The Orioles ownership came under fire recently for suspending play-by-play man Kevin Brown. During a broadcast, Brown mentioned Baltimore’s poor performances at Tropicana Field before a showdown with the Tampa Bay Rays.

So, you know, doing his job.
Apparently, owner John Angelos didn’t care for the comment and suspended Brown for multiple games. After that story made headlines, several Orioles fans came out in support of the broadcaster.
Prior to a game, fans at Camden Yards started chanting, “Free Kevin Brown!”
The Athletic, in confirmation of Awful Announcing’s initial report that Kevin Brown was suspended, reported, “Broadcasters have also been reprimanded previously for mentioning past Orioles players who are no longer with the team.”
Just how petty was the move to suspend Brown?
While the Baltimore Orioles denied suspending Kevin Brown and said they “don’t comment on personnel matters,” it has been widely reported that Kevin Brown was suspended for comments he made on air while Baltimore played Tampa Bay.
“The Orioles have won more games against them this season than the last two combined,” Brown said, comparing Baltimore’s record this year to past ones against Tampa Bay. This was part of a planned segment that included a graphic.
Pretty sad that those comments — which were straight facts — warranted a suspension.
