The Baltimore Ravens have elevated two players from their injured reserve list as well as two from the practice squad, the team reported Saturday. Rookie receiver Rashod Bateman is set to make his NFL debut Sunday against the Chargers.

The first-round selection out of Minnesota had groin surgery in August that caused him to miss the first five games of the season. His debut comes at a needed time as slot receiver Sammy Watkins is out Sunday with a hamstring injury.

The Ravens also removed offensive lineman Tyre Phillips from injured reserve. In addition, running back Le’Veon Bell and offensive tackle Andre Smith have been elevated from the practice squad to the active roster.

Bell has seen action in one game so far this season, finishing with four carries for 11 yards. The three-time Pro Bowler hasn’t enjoyed as much success as he is used to the past few seasons, but has a chance to carve out a role in the Baltimore backfield.

An injury to JK Dobbins has forced Latavius Murray into the lead spot, though he had only six carries in Week 5 against Indianapolis. Dual-threat quarterback Lamar Jackson led the Ravens with 14 rushing attempts.

Just three years ago, Bell was the starting back for the New York Jets and led the league in carries. He totaled 1,946 yards from scrimmage that season along with 11 total touchdowns. He grew tired of losing however and was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020.

Bell spent that year in a backup role before joining the Ravens in September. He clearly has talent and give Baltimore need at the position, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him more involved going forward. His pass-catching ability is something that Murray and DeVonta Freman can’t replicate.

The Ravens will kick off against the Chargers at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday in Baltimore. With Bateman off injured reserve and the possibility of Bell taking on more, Week 6 gives Baltimore Ravens fans plenty of reason to tune in.
