The Las Vegas Raiders have selected former Marshall EDGE Mike Green in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Green exploded onto the scene as a one of the top pass rushers in the country last season, and is now on his way to the NFL after three seasons playing in college.

Green is a phyiscal freak with elite explosiveness off the edge, and it’s no surprise that he climbed up draft boards after his stellar 2024 season where he was named a first-team All-American and Sun Belt Player of the Year. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound Green, led the NCAA with 17 sacks in 2024. He ultimately finished the season with 81 total tackles and three forced fumbles, not to mention two pass breakups while playing along the defensive line.

He ultimately spent two seasons with the Thundering Herd after he began his career at Virginia. During the pre-draft process, Green confirmed that he left the Cavaliers’ program after previously being the subject of two sexual assault allegations. He reaffirmed his innocence during the interview.

“There’s accusations out there. I’ve never been questioned,” Green said, per TMZ. “I’ve never been asked. Nobody ever asked me a question about what happened before I departed from Virginia. It was just accusations that caused me to leave.”

What NFL Draft experts are saying about Mike Green

Now that Mike Green has been drafted, fans may be wondering what to expect from their new defensive playmaker. NFL Draft analyst Lance Zierlein provided his analysis of the former Thundering Herd EDGE.

Zierlein: “High-energy pass rusher with productivity and a method of play that should translate to the next level. Green displays a natural and instinctive rush, utilizing loose hips and a series of moves and counters that can open doors with force or finesse. He’s very physical, with notes of violence in the way he attacks blockers in both phases.

“His explosiveness allows him to penetrate gaps, play around or through the protection edges and change direction quickly to finish in the backfield. He relentlessly presses forward, but can run out of gas due to his hot-running motor. Teams might wish he were heavier and longer but he’s willful, skilled and powerful with the ability to create enormous matchup concerns as an edge rusher on the next level.”

Zierlein described Green as explosive, plays with a high level of violence and physicality, rushes with relentless forward charge. Some of his weaknesses include lacking length and mass as well as being in the habit of dipping inside and losing contain responsibilities.
