Barstool Sports' Dave Portnoy places Alabama national championship future for $100,000
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has placed a massive $100,000 bet on the Alabama Crimson Tide (+1000) to win the national championship.
If Alabama were to win the College Football Playoff, the bet would pay out $1.1 million. The future was placed through DraftKings Sportsbook.
Portnoy shares his bets on social media frequently, such as his bet in favor of Jake Paul over Mike Tyson earlier this month. Like all of us, he’s also had some that don’t pan out like picking Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever to win the 2024 WNBA Championship. He dropped $100,000 on that bet as well, and has shared numerous six-figure bets in the past.
He’ll hope to see a better outcome with the Crimson Tide than he did the Fever.
Portnoy places the massive future bet at a time when the Crimson Tide are arguably playing their best football of the season.
Under first-year head coach Kalen DeBoer, Alabama is 8-2 coming off a two-week stretch where they’ve outscored their opposition 94-20. That includes during what turned out to be a College Football Playoff eliminator on the road against LSU on Nov. 9.

With the toughest stretch of Alabama’s regular season behind them, they’re 13.5-point betting favorites to defeat Oklahoma on the road this weekend. If they can take care of business, all that’s left standing between them and a potential SEC Championship berth is the always tricky Iron Bowl against Auburn in the regular season finale.
Still, ESPN analytics gives Alabama an 80% or greater chance to win both of those matchups, including a 90.9% chance to beat Auburn in Tuscaloosa.
If they can reach the 10-win threshold before the postseason and don’t make the conference title game, Alabama’s current No. 7 ranking suggests they’ll have a home playoff game in the first round. However, the CFP race is as tight as ever, especially in the SEC which has six teams with a legitimate path to the playoffs.
The margin of error has never been slimmer heading into Week 13.
