Ben Griffin nearly takes out cameraman with errant shot at Rocket Mortgage Classic
Every now and then, professional golfers look like the rest of us. That happened to Ben Griffin during this weekend’s Rocket Mortgage Classic, nearly striking a cameraman with an errant shot.
During Sunday’s final round, Griffin’s ball landed in an awkward position in the rough at the lip of a bunker. In an attempt to put his shot onto the green, the PGA Tour golfer mishit the shot, firing the golf ball over the target area.
As the ball bounced around, it nearly hit a cameraman near the green. Even though it took a few bounces, it was still heading in the worker’s direction at a pretty high speed.
Fortunately, the ball didn’t strike the unsuspecting cameraman. But it should provide a little insight that these jobs do come with a little bit of danger.
As for Griffin, all of those watching could relate to the errant shot. Golf is a difficult game, and we’ve all hit a shot like that while on the course. Maybe even more than one for some of us.
That shot aside, Griffin put together a pretty solid performance at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He carded a -12 for the tournament, finishing in a tie for 33rd.
Rickie Fowler, who hadn’t won a PGA Tour event since 2019, won the tournament in a playoff.
Fans upset with limited coverage of Rocket Mortgage Classic
The Rocket Mortgage Classic turned out to be a really fun and entertaining tournament over the weekend. Unfortunately, fans had a pretty big gripe with CBS over its limited coverage of the event.

Due to weather issues, the PGA Tour moved tee times around, which then hindered CBS’s coverage of the tournament. Fans were unable to see Fowler’s victory on national television, having to rely on the network’s app to watch the final holes.
Needless to say, fans weren’t too pleased.
“So Rickie Fowler is in contention at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and there’s just no TV coverage?” one Twitter user wrote. “CBS has an infomercial for a steam cleaner on right now, very smart programming.”
“The fact that we can’t watch the final holes of the Rocket Mortgage tournament is ridiculous,” another user wrote. “Golf channel and CBS should be embarrassed.”
A third added, “In case you’re wondering, you can watch this epic playoff at the Rocket Mortgage Classic on CBS Sports’ website, except that it’s not even loading for me.”
CBS might want to have a better plan of action next time it covers a tournament.
