Bengals acquire Bears RB Khalil Herbert ahead of NFL Trade Deadline
The Cincinnati Bengals (4-5) have acquired running back Khalil Herbert from the Chicago Bears (4-4), Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Tuesday.
Chicago is receiving a 2025 seventh round pick in exchange for Herbert.
Herbert, 26, heads to Cincinnati to help offset the loss of Zack Moss, who is out indefinitely with a neck injury. Moss, who signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the Bengals this past offseason, split backfield duties with second-year player Chase Brown.
Brown, Cincinnati’s leading rusher, has a new running mate in Herbert. The 26-year-old was a productive and efficient runner in his first three seasons with the Bears, compiling 1,775 yards on 4.9 yards per carry. He fell down the pecking order this season following the signing of D’Andre Swift and with Roschon Johnson getting more opportunities. Herbert has seen just eight carries in six games, going for 16 yards and a score.

Bengals make first addition on NFL trade deadline day in Khalil Herbert
Based on his immediate reaction on social media, Herbert appears quite happy to be on his way to Cincinnati.
The Bengals are not done on NFL trade deadline day, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic. Cincinnati will now look for help on its defense, a unit surrendering 25.2 points per game this season.
“The Cincinnati Bengals trade with the Bears to get running back Khalil Herbert. And I was told they’re not done,” Russini wrote on X. “Cincinnati continues to look around the league for an addition on defense.”
