Bengals HC Zac Taylor confirms Joe Burrow's injury timeline
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor confirmed Friday that quarterback Joe Burrow will be sidelined for “several weeks” after suffering a right calf strain in practice the day prior.
“Joe got more days this July than he’s ever had in the NFL,” Taylor said, via ESPN. “So, I feel really good about that and the progress we’ve made during those July practices with Joe… When he’s able to get back we’ll be able to get the work that we need.”
Burrow, 26, went down with a non-contact injury while scrambling to his right during a play in practice. He was carted off the field, making it the third consecutive summer his time in training camp has been halted due to a medical issue. Burrow, the 2020 first overall pick, entered training camp the following season recovering from a torn ACL and MCL in his left knee. Heading into 2022, he suffered a ruptured appendix which required surgery.
Burrow, fresh off leading the Bengals to Super LVI, recorded the first Pro Bowl season of his career this past season. He threw for 4,475 yards with 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on 68.3% passing. He added 257 yards and five scores on the ground.

Bengals backups getting extended work with Joe Burrow sidelined
In his absence Friday, Jake Browning took reps with the 1s while Trevor Siemian worked with the 2s. Taylor said both will rotate as they battle it out to be the backup behind Burrow. Taylor indicated that Cincinnati will bring in a third quarterback with Burrow on the shelf, per Bengals.com.
“Today and tomorrow will rotate with the ones and then likely next week we’ll start doing two days [in a row] so guys can get into rhythm and receivers, and those guys can get into a rhythm,” Taylor said. “So, you might see, two days in a row where guys, taking ones, don’t read too much into it. We’re in the early part of camp… We’re going to give those guys a lot of opportunities at this point. That’s the silver lining here. These guys get a chance to go with the first group and get a lot of work. A lot more work than they would have gotten.”
