“It makes sense,” Arizona baseball coach Chip Hale said of seeing Dallas Baptist in Arizona’s regional. “Their fans can get down here with no problem. It’s a no-brainer. Everybody is different than we were when we played them last. We will re-scout everybody. Dallas Baptist had a great year. We saw their best pitcher and they were dynamite. We’ve seen a really good Grand Canyon team and West Virginia finished strong in their conference. Take one day at a time and play our best baseball. That’s all we can do.”
The Wildcats won the Pac-12 Tournament last week, which earned them a 13 overall seed in this year’s tournament. They’ll be matching up with Grand Canyon to kick off their regional slate beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. MST on ESPN+.
“They’re super veteran,” Hale said of Grand Canyon. “Nothing phases them. This will be different. We will face their Friday night starter and we will have our best pitcher going against them. It will be a little bit different. They put good at bats together, put the ball in play with two strikes. With our weather and field, there are a lot of hits to be had. When you put the ball in play, you have a chance.”
Action at the Tucson Regional begins with Dallas Baptist doing battle against West Virginia. First pitch is slated for Noon MST and will air live on ESPN2.
