Former Texas Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson is a year removed from the program, but he still remembers his time in Austin fondly. During a sit-down interview on Bussin’ with the Boys, the Atlanta Falcons star running back reflected on what it was like playing for Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian.

“Man, it was so much fun. Like just having him as not necessarily a father figure but like an older brother to come and actually coach me and take me in,” Robinson said. “What was cool, was like me and Sark; I was with him for the raise of what he has now. Those struggles that we went through… and now seeing him be respected around the whole college football around, everybody that knows football, it’s pretty sick.

“Definitely a dude I respect a lot, especially for helping make me who I am today.”

Robinson just missed out on the Longhorns return to the championship picture. After an impressive 2023 campaign which concluded with a Big 12 conference championship, Texas found itself as one of four teams earning a College Football Playoff bid. Unfortunately, the Longhorns were taken out by the Washington Huskies in the opening game, narrowly missing a chance to play for a national championship.

Although his time at Texas is in the rearview mirror, Robinson has plenty of memories to hang on to as he navigates his professional career. From this interview, it is clear that he truly valued and enjoyed playing for Sarkisian at Texas.

Robinson: Texas has ‘a really good chance of doing some good stuff’

As the College Football Playoff field expands to 12 teams and conference realignment officially takes hold with the start of the 2024 season, some programs like Texas are feeling great about their chances to make a big splash this season.

One person who is familiar with the inner workings of the program feels even more confident.

I think we’re really good, even just us going to the SEC, like I think we have like a really good chance of doing some good stuff,” said Robinson. “We’ve got everybody coming from the portal.”

The Longhorns did indeed aggressively mine the transfer portal for talent to pair with returning starting quarterback Quinn Ewers. Texas needed to, because it lost a good deal of production in the passing game.
