Charlie Weis gives insight to potential Bill Belichick, Robert Kraft negotiations about future
Former New England Patriots assistant and Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis provided interesting insight to Bill Belichick.
The current Patriots head coach could be out of his job before too long after the worst year of his tenure. But how does that conversation go with owner Robert Kraft?
Weis joined Mad Dog Radio’s The D.A. Show with Babchik for a little perspective.
“I think they’re negotiating, that’s what I think is happening,” Weis said. “And negotiating could have a whole lot of different outcomes. I mean, one form of negotiation could be for him to still be there, but if this is a separation, it might possibly play out like an amicable one, but I can promise you this. If there’s a separation, it’s not amicable.”
Weis noted how Belichick went a little off script when he mentioned his contract, something he historically never does publicly.
“I mean, there’s you know, there’s when Bill came out and said, right after the game, I’m under contract, when’s the last time you heard him say anything about his own contract,” Weis said. “Never. The answer is never. Never … There’s obviously a method towards madness. So when he said that, he was already setting the bar saying, okay, you know, strike one, I’m under contract. I’m coming in like I do every other day. You know, you want to get rid of me, you go ahead and make that call.
“The fact that it hasn’t, it’s now Wednesday, and it still hasn’t been made yet, they let you know that they’re negotiating. That’s what’s happening right now.”

As the possibility of a separation grows, suitors are lining up. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Atlanta Falcons are one of those squads, keeping their attention on what the end result is just outside of Boston.
“Bill Belichick is still the head coach in New England but the Atlanta Falcons are a team to watch if Belichick is available,” Russini posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “They are interested, per sources.”
Alas, the Falcons have an opening after the firing of Arthur Smith after three seasons in Atlanta. Their offense never matched the capabilities Smith showed while he was the offensive coordinator of the Tennessee Titans, and the franchise decided to move on following Week 18.
If Belichick becomes available, the Falcons will be far from the only team interested in one of the winningest coaches in NFL history. The Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders have been championed as potential destinations, as well.
