Bill Belichick makes admission ahead of matchup vs. Tom Brady

Legendary quarterback Tom Brady is set to return to Foxboro on Sunday night to take on the New England Patriots as the opposing quarterback for the first time in his NFL career. Brady played in 20 seasons for the Patriots, where he won six Super Bowls. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick appreciates Brady, calling him the best quarterback any coach could ask for. Belichick knows that he wouldn’t have as many rings without Brady.

“Of course not,” Belichick said when asked if he thinks he would have the same amount of success in New England without having Brady as his quarterback. “We’ve talked about that for two decades. I think I’ve talked about that dozens of times saying there is no quarterback I would rather have than Tom Brady. I still feel that way, I was very lucky to have Tom as the quarterback and to coach him. He was as good as any coach could ever ask for.”

In his 20-year career with the Patriots, Brady threw for 74,571 yards, 541 touchdowns and 179 interceptions. Brady also had a successful start to his tenure with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last season, throwing for 4,633 yards and 40 touchdowns. His 4,633 yards were Brady’s highest total since 2015, and his 40 touchdowns were his most since 2007.

Tom Brady Sr. made interesting comments on Brady’s departure from the Patriots

Earlier in the week, Tom Brady Sr. commented on his son’s departure from Belichick and the Patriots. The elder Brady said that he felt vindicated by Brady’s Super Bowl winning performance in his first season with the Buccaneers.

“Damn right. Damn right, Brady Sr. said. “Belichick wanted him off the door, and last year he threw 56 touchdowns. I think that’s a pretty good year.”

Brady Sr. went on to talk more off his son’s departure, saying that he is appreciative of his career there, but also happy that he is now elsewhere.

“My feeling is that Tommy is extraordinarily appreciative of what happened during his New England career,” he said. “And he’s more than happy that he’s moved on.

“It was pretty obvious that the Patriot regime felt like it was time for him to move on. Frankly, it may well have been the perfect time for Belichick to move on from him. On the other hand, I think the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are happy that they didn’t want to afford him or didn’t want to keep him when his last contract came up.”

The comments from Brady Sr. add even more fuel to the fire ahead of Brady’s return to Foxboro to take on the Patriots for the first time. In his 27-year head coaching career, Belichick has a record of 281-138 with six Super Bowls. While Belichick is undoubtedly one of the best coaches in NFL history, Tom Brady definitely made a big impact on his career.
