Bills GM Brandon Beane speaks out about controversial Josh Allen fourth-down play in AFC Championship vs. Chiefs

The Buffalo Bills, once again, came up just short of being able to beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs. This time, they fell in the AFC Championship Game in a close battle that wasn’t without its controversy.
In particular, there was a fourth down in the fourth quarter when the Bills were moving the ball downfield. At the time the game was tied but, still outside field goal range, the Bills ran a QB sneak with Josh Allen to try and convert. It was close on the field, with many thinking Allen converted. However, in the end, it was ruled he was short. Upon replay review, there was nothing to overturn the call.
For fans and personnel of the Buffalo Bills, it was an incredibly frustrating call. That extended all the way to Bills GM Brandon Beane, who has now shared his thoughts on that controversial fourth-down play against the Chiefs.
“I feel like he got that,” Brandon Beane said. “I felt like that in the moment and nothing has changed my mind on that.”
The Kansas City Chiefs then moved the ball downfield and were set up for a field goal. That gave Kansas City a lead that they wouldn’t give up again. As for his part, Josh Allen got the ball back but wasn’t able to get the offense out of first gear to try and lead a late fourth-quarter drive.

Unfortunately, for the Bills, the fourth-down play was incredibly close but no cameras had a view of the ball in the pile of bodies that a quarterback sneak creates. That made it impossible to overturn the call on the field, even if it was wrong.
After the game, Josh Allen reflected on the loss. For the second season in a row, and the fourth out of the last five seasons, Buffalo lost to Kansas City in the playoffs, ending their season. It’s a dynasty that’s blocking Buffalo from a shot at its own Super Bowl.
“It’s not fun,” Allen said. “To be the champs, you gotta beat the champs. And we didn’t do it tonight.”
Now, the Buffalo Bills are returning to the drawing board. They’ll look for a way to improve and beat Kansas City in the playoffs next season. Meanwhile, the Chiefs are turning their attention to the Super Bowl yet again. There, they’ll hope to win a third straight. They’d be the first team in NFL history to do so.
