Bills star Stefon Diggs reportedly unhappy with his role in offense
The Stefon Diggs saga continues. After Diggs was absent at the Bills’ mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, tensions have risen regarding the star wide receiver’s future with the organization. Nonetheless, according to Boston Globe reporter Ben Volin, this conflict isn’t new.
“Diggs’ frustration is with his role in the offense and his voice in play-calling, per a league source close to the Bills’ locker room,” Ben Volin wrote Sunday. “He was visibly agitated at Allen during the 27-10 playoff loss to the [Cincinnati] Bengals, stormed out of the locker room almost immediately after the game, and didn’t attend any voluntary workouts this offseason.”
Sean McDermott clears up the feud
Bills head coach Sean McDermott didn’t wait long to silence any rumors. The 49-year-old coach reportedly talked with Diggs in hopes of squashing any differences.
“We had a good conversation, great communication,” McDermott said on Wednesday. “We got to a point yesterday where we just felt like we all needed a break and some space. So, I gave Stef permission to get some space and head out and picked up those conversations after practice. So let me make it clear: It was not Stef leaving unexcused — he was excused by me. And so those conversations have got us to, what I think and believe, is a great spot.”
Of course, many fans are still skeptical of the pair’s relationship. In three years with the Buffalo Bills, Diggs is yet to see a Super Bowl. The closest the 29-year-old has come was in 2020 when the Bills fell 38-24 to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship.

Discussing the issue
While he may not agree with Diggs, McDermott is happy Diggs is willing to voice his opinion.
“Sometimes you got to have conversations and need to communicate. I appreciate Stef being willing to communicate. I thought he did a great job,” McDermott said. “I love him. So, I want to make sure that you guys understand what really the situation was and is. Because there’s some things that have been said that I think don’t think were fair, so I wanted to provide clarity to that situation.”
Stefon Diggs holds the power
Diggs was Bills quarterback Josh Allen‘s top target last season, recording 108 receptions for 1429 yards. Additionally, Diggs recorded a career-high 11 receiving touchdowns. The three-time Pro Bowler is set to stay in Buffalo for a long time.
Last year, Stefon Diggs signed a four-year, $96 million contract with the Buffalo Bills, including a $21.5 million signing bonus. With finances and figures by his side, Buffalo will likely consider meeting Diggs’ needs.
