Denver rookie quarterback Bo Nix has looked very comfortable in the preseason so far. He continued to impress on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, when he connected with Broncos’ veteran receiver Tim Patrick for a touchdown.

On the opening drive, Nix was on fire, connecting on 8 of his 9 passes for 80 yards, and a touchdown. Through two preseason games, he’s connected on 23 of 30 passes for 205 yards, while running for 29 yards on the ground. He’s also had two touchdowns.

He’s been impressive in preseason, and it’ll be interesting to see if he can win the starting job before the season opener for Denver. Veteran wideout Tim Patrick has always been an impressive receiver, he just dealt with ACL and Achilles injuries the past two years, forcing him to miss time. The touchdown on Sunday night had to have been a special moment for him in his journey back from injury.

More on the former Oregon star and his college career

Nix was selected with the 12th pick in the first of the NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos. He’ll now be looking to prove his supporters right and his doubters wrong as he moves to the NFL after a phenomenal collegiate career.

Over the course of his time in college football, Nix passed for 15,352 yards and 113 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,613 yards and 38 touchdowns as well, over three seasons with Auburn and two with Oregon. He was a Heisman finalist with the Ducks in 2023.

Bo Nix played high school football at the Scottsboro School (AL), where he was a five-star prospect. He was the No. 36 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Bo Nix

While analyzing most of the 2024 NFL Draft class, NFL Network’s Lance Zierlein predicted Nix would be a second-round selection, predicting former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo as his professional comparison.

His overview of Nix was a positive one, as you can tell, coming to the conclusion that he has a skillset tailored for success at the next level.

“Rare five-year starting quarterback whose play has matured in front of our eyes. Nix displays the accuracy, arm talent and athleticism consistent with today’s brand of pro quarterback,” Zierlein wrote. “He can be punctual in getting the ball out at the top of his drop or he can work through progressions and beat defenses with second-reaction plays. He throws with good velocity and puts the ball on the money when throwing on the move. Nix has shown great improvement with his pocket poise. He’s capable of moving the sticks as a scrambler or as part of the running game.

“Some of his gaudy production has been driven by the Oregon offense’s design, but his talent clearly stands out. I’ve harbored bias from watching the overwhelmed version of Nix during his Auburn days, but as the saying goes, ‘tape don’t lie.’ Nix appears more than ready to attack the league with an NFL-caliber skill set.”
