Why aren’t the top quarterbacks throwing at the Combine? | Forcing Notre Dame into a conference?

Not every quarterback opted to throw at this year’s NFL Combine, creating an opportunity for the ones who did, like Oregon star Bo Nix.

Nix never had a doubt that he’d compete, looking forward to it all week. That’s just the way he’s wired. He wants to compete at every turn.

“I thought it was a solid day. It was just fun to get out here and finally throw,” Nix told the NFL Network’s Jamie Erdahl. “You spend all week doing the important things, but you really just are eager to get on the field. That’s what we were able to do today. It’s all about just getting out there and completing passes. They can watch film and see your intangibles and all, but when you’re here you just want to make sure you’re sharp and you complete all of them.”

The Oregon quarterback certainly has plenty of game tape for NFL executives to pore over. He spent five seasons in college, playing for both Auburn and Oregon.

He threw for 15,352 yards, with 113 touchdowns against just 26 interceptions. He also ran for 1,613 yards and 38 scores.

So what this weekend was all about was getting to show scouts what they can’t see on tape.

“I think they just wanted to get to know me on a personal level and experience what it’s like maybe to be in a meeting or a room with Bo and see what he’s like,” Bo Nix said. “But I felt like that was important. Same way, goes for me and them. It’s important to be around NFL personnel, get to know that before you get in a room with a bunch of them and you’re having to lead a franchise.

“I think that’s really important, because that’s one of the things that I personally can’t wait to do. I think it’s just feeling out your moment, making sure that when you get it you do really well with it and don’t take it for granted.”

Make no mistake about it: Bo Nix considers his wealth of college football experience a real positive.

“I think it’s simple, just every year there was a lot of personal growth,” he said. “Every year I got better. Every year was something different. And capped it off with an incredible year this past year. We were really solid, really good, efficient.

“It just starts with making the easy play over and over and over and just being as consistent as I can possibly be. Let everything else take care of itself, but it’s my job to go out there and be efficient and take care of the offense and make sure we have an explosive team. That’s what we were able to do, but it took every year leading up to it, a lot of growth. But it was an incredible journey, one that I’d do all over again.”
