Bo Nix finds Marvin Mims Jr. for first NFL touchdown vs Colts
Denver Broncos first-round draft pick Bo Nix led the first touchdown drive of his career during his NFL preseason debut on Sunday on the road against the Indianapolis Colts.
After a shaky first drive, the rookie quarterback led a 10-play, 56-yard drive that took over six minutes off the clock. It was finished off with a one-yard touchdown pass to 2023 second-round pick Marvin Mims Jr.

Throwing touchdown passes are nothing new for the Broncos’ rookie. Over the course of his time in college football, Nix passed for 15,352 yards and 113 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,613 yards and 38 touchdowns as well, over three seasons with Auburn and two with Oregon. He was a Heisman finalist with the Ducks in 2023, and showcased why during that touchdown-scoring drive.
For Mims Jr., he led Oklahoma in receiving every season that he was in Norman, finishing with 123 catches for 2,398 yards and 20 touchdowns. During his final season at the college ranks he ranked second in the Big 12 with 1,083 receiving yards on 54 catches along with six touchdowns to earn first team all-conference honors.

This could be an exciting connection for Broncos fans to enjoy moving forward. That is, if Nix sees the field much as a rookie.
Ahead of the preseason opener, the Denver Broncos released their first unofficial depth chart for the 2024 — and Nix was listed as third on the depth chart behind Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson.
For now, it’s Stidham who is QB1. He started the game and finished his drive 4 of 7 passing for 37 yards and an interception. The former Auburn and Baylor QB is entering his sixth season in the NFL after being drafted by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. As a pro, Stidham has appeared in 16 NFL games and has thrown for 1,422 yards, with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions.
As for Wilson, the former BYU star was selected No. 2 overall by the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, he has struggled thus far in the NFL and was traded to Denver earlier this offseason. The hope is that a change of scenery will help him out, but it’s unclear how much he’ll see the field either given the quarterback competition within the Broncos’ training camp.
