Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix played with three spinal fractures during the final games of the 2024 season. While speaking to reporters on Monday, Nix revealed he played with three transverse fractures in his back since the Week 12 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

“The biggest week was I had a transverse process fracture in my back,” Nix said, per Mike Klis of 9News. “That week got treatment, made it through that week. Monday Night Football was a stretch where we were all kind of banged up. And I wasn’t going to miss the first Monday night game. I got treatment on it and then we were fortunate to have an off (bye) week the next week and it kind of went away after that. That moment was annoying but we all play with something.”

Despite the injury, Nix did not miss any time in the Raiders game and played in five more regular-season games and the playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. He finished the year with 3,775 yards and 29 touchdowns.

“I think that’s the No. 1 quality everybody likes about him is his toughness,” Broncos offensive lineman Mike McGlinchey said. “He’s shown it time-in and time-out.

“And it’s not just the physical toughness with playing through something like that or whatever he’s going through physically but the mental up-and-down of being a rookie quarterback and being the face of our franchise and all the pressure that comes with that and the way he handled it — Bo’s toughness is why he’s going to be who he’s going to be. It’s been really impressive to watch.”

The Broncos selected Nix at No. 12 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. His production led to the Broncos reaching the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season, the same year they won the Super Bowl. While Nix is happy with what the Broncos accomplished this year, he knows more work needs to be done to bring Denver another championship.

“We competed hard against teams that are really good,” Nix said, per the team’s official website. “We just kind of showed [and] proved to ourselves that we belong in some of these games. You play this game to reach the highest level, so I don’t want to be complacent, and I don’t want to ever be just comfortable and satisfied and happy with something that looks good on the outside. You play this game to win, and everybody’s working for a Super Bowl. We owe that to ourselves because of the time that we put into it.”
