Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty announces plans to enter 2025 NFL Draft
Fresh off his record-chasing 2024 season, Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is ready to take his talents to the next level.
Jeanty announced his intention to enter the 2025 NFL Draft in an Instagram post Tuesday.
“First of all, I want to thank God for all the opportunities he has given me. I wouldn’t be here without Him. I want to thank Boise State and the coaches who recruited me and gave me a chance to show my greatness,” Jeanty wrote. “The community is what makes this place special, and the support and love from Bronco Nation is unmatched. Last but not least, I want to thank all of my family and friends for their support throughout my college career. I’m excited to announce I am declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. The opportunity to play in the NFL is a dream of mine, and I’m proud to represent Boise State and all of those who have helped me along the way at the next level. Go Broncos!”
Jeanty, the Heisman Trophy runner-up to Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter, led all of college football with 2,601 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns on 374 carries this season, coming just 28 yards shy of breaking Barry Sanders‘ NCAA single-season rushing record of 2,628 yards set in 1988.
While not a record-breaking season, Jeanty’s 2,600-yard rushing effort was still extraordinary, finishing with 890 more rushing yards than his next closest competitor in Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo (1,711 yards). Jeanty also eclipsed the 200-yard rushing mark six times this season, averaging 185.8 rushing yards per game this season.
Jeanty entered last Tuesday’s Fiesta Bowl against Penn State needing only 132 rushing yards to surpass Sanders’ historic mark. But the Nittany Lions defense limited Jeanty to a season-low 3.47 yards per carry average in a 31-14 loss, as Jeanty finished with 104 rushing yards on 30 carries and no touchdowns.

James Franklin on facing Ashton Jeanty in Fiesta Bowl: ‘He’s a beast’
Speaking ahead of that Fiesta Bowl matchup, Penn State head coach James Franklin had high praise for what Jeanty brings to the table.
“He’s a beast,” Franklin said. “He’s a beast in terms of his production on the field but then also his durability. From the interviews I’ve seen, he’s also a guy that kind of understands how to be a pro already at this point in terms of taking care of his body, rest and recovery and treatment and doing all the things necessary.
“I also think the way he’s built and his running style helps with that as well. Not too many people are able to get clean shots on him. All of it is super impressive, but I think the stat that I mentioned earlier, the most impressive stat, is yards after contact. He’s got more yards after contact than most of the elite backs in college football have in general.”
