Boston Celtics select Baylor Scheierman in 2024 NBA Draft
Do-it-all Creighton star and former South Dakota State player Baylor Scheierman has been selected in the 2024 NBA Draft, going to the world champion Boston Celtics with the 30th pick.
Scheierman heads to the pros following a tremendous college career between his two midwestern college stops. He was initially a mid-major superstar at SDSU, making the All-Summit League team two years in a row while winning the Conference Player of the Year award in 2022, when he took the Jackrabbits to the NCAA Tournament.
He was then a top transfer portal target in ’22 and landed in a perfect fit with Greg McDermott’s Blue Jays program. Scheierman had no trouble adjusting to the Big East and contributed as a terrific multi-dimensional player, finishing third in points per game and first in rebounds and second in assists.
In 2024, Scheierman only improved, leading the team with over 18 points per game, also leading the team with nine rebounds per contest. He earned All-Big East honors as Creighton made the Sweet 16 a year after they made an Elite Eight.

What NBA Draft experts are saying about Baylor Scheierman
On3’s own James Fletcher has released an official big board for the 2024 NBA Draft, providing analysis of the top 40 players in this year’s class. He pegged Scheierman as the No. 24 overall player and had this to say about the Creighton product:
“Baylor Scheierman proved himself to be one of college basketball’s most productive players over five seasons. He is a well-balanced contributor on both ends who has accepted his role within the team. He averaged 18.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 38.9 percent from 3 and 87.6 on free throws this season. In addition, his 118 offensive rating and 100 defensive rating showcase his all-around game.
“Scheierman moved up the board by performing well in the NBA Combine, including the scrimmage before making a clear statement on his competitive nature.”
