Brad Wing throws 41-yard touchdown to offensive lineman in UFL game
What if I told you that Brad Wing was involved in arguably the most exciting play during the UFL’s opening weekend?
Yes, that Brad Wing, the punter who spent five seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants. Well, you better believe it, because it happened during the San Antonio Brahmas-DC Defenders game on Sunday inside the Alamodome.
With just a few ticks remaining in the first half, the Brahmas clinging to a 14-9 lead, San Antonio lined up to attempt a 58-yard field goal. Head coach Wade Phillips, however, wanted to get greedy. San Antonio went with a fake, in which Wing heaved one downfield to offensive lineman Alex Mollette. Mollette not only came down with Wing’s pass but muscled his way in for six.

In the UFL, sideline reporters have the ability to interview players after big plays. And so, we were able to hear from Wing before the half came to an end, courtesy of ESPN‘s Cole Cubelic. According to Wing, the play didn’t go to plan, nor did they ever complete the intended play in practice. It did, though, work when it mattered most.
“That fake, we’ve run it a bunch,” Wing said. “It was not the intended route, [and] we’ve never completed it in practice. So, we saved it for the right time, I guess. That was not how that was supposed to go, but we’ll take it. There’s supposed to be one — one route and that was not the one, but it worked. So, thank God, happy Easter.”
