Brandon Aiyuk injury update: Kyle Shanahan reveals expected diagnosis for 49ers WR
San Francisco 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk is feared to have suffered a torn ACL in Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs, coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters postgame.
Aiyuk went down near the end of the second quarter after taking a direct hit to his right knee. It was clear to the naked eye from the impact of the hit that there was a high likelihood the injury was serious, and now the worst case scenario is closer to being confirmed.
Aiyuk will undergo an MRI to confirm the diagnosis of a torn ACL. He will likely be out for the season if the results end up being what the team expects.
Aiyuk signed a four-year contract extension worth $120 million prior to the start of this season. He ranked second on the team with 23 catches for 351 yards entering Sunday’s contest and finished the game with two catches for 23 yards.
With Brandon Aiyuk and several other playmakers in the offense sidelined, San Francisco ultimately lost 28-18 to fall to 3-4 on the season. Fellow receivers Deebo Samuel (illness) and Jauan Jennings (hip) were also out and the passing game struggling to get going as a result.
Brock Purdy finished the game just 17-of-31 passing for 212 yards and threw three interceptions.

The injury bug has bitten the 49ers hard this season as running back Christian McCaffrey having yet to play a game so far due to Achilles tendonitis. With Aiyuk now likely done for the year, it only seems to be getting worse.
San Francisco will hope its fortune can turn around next week when it takes on a Dallas Cowboys team that has struggled so far this season.
49ers star Trent Williams ejected for punching Chiefs player
Things were simply a disaster in every way, shape, and form on Sunday for the San Francisco 49ers. Quarterback Brock Purdy threw three interceptions against the Kansas City Chiefs, and they couldn’t get anything going on the offensive side of the football.
Frustrations boiled over when star tackle Trent Williams got into a scuffle with Chiefs safety Bryan Cook. Cook decided to take a swing on Williams first, and then, Williams retaliated with a punch of his own.
Trent Williams was immediately ejected from the game.
