Brandon Aiyuk to stay with 49ers, agrees to 4-year, $120M contract extension
Brandon Aiyuk will remain a member of the San Francisco 49ers as he has signed a new contract with the team. According to multiple reports, the 49ers and Aiyuk have agreed on a four-year, $120 million contract extension with $76 million in guarantees.
Before the signing, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers and 49ers had a deal for a potential trade, and Pittsburgh is in a good place on a contract for Aiyuk. The 49ers just needed to sign off on the deal, but the team sent a contract offer to Aiyuk on a long-term deal for him to stay.
Last week, Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network that Aiyuk wanted to play for the Steelers. “Well, a couple of weeks ago – with Aiyuk holding in and no end in sight – the 49ers began to survey the trade market,” Pelissero said. “Several teams entered into the negotiations both with the 49ers and with Aiyuk’s agent on a contract. There was San Francisco looking for a wide receiver as part of any trade. The Steelers didn’t have one to give, but it became plenty apparent over time that that was Aiyuk’s preferred destination.
“At that point, the 49ers started checking with other teams. Could you get a wide receiver from somebody else while trading Aiyuk to Pittsburgh? The prices were high if people would be moved, at all. … Those two options still remain to be seen in terms of is it the 49ers on a new deal [or] is it a trade in Pittsburgh. But we do appear to be coming to a head here.”

Brandon Aiyuk had a big 2023 season for the 49ers
Aiyuk, 26, was selected by the 49ers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He had his best season in 2023, catching 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games. And in three playoff games last season, the Arizona State alum caught nine passes for 149 yards and one score. After the 2022 season, the 49ers picked up the fifth-year option of Aiyuk’s rookie contract.
Before the contract signing, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to reporters about Aiyuk being ready for the season after holding out during training camp. “I trust Brandon knows what he’s got to do for this year to get ready to play,” he said, per 49ers Webzone. “I have a feeling he’s finding a way to stay in shape and do those things, but there’s a football shape element that I know he’s eager to get back to, and us too. So, hopefully, we can get to that soon.”
