The Philadelphia Eagles are 11-2, riding a nine-game winning streak and sitting pretty atop the NFC East and yet, some potential drama between quarterback Jalen Hurts and receiver A.J. Brown is stealing headlines.

Following Sunday’s 22-16 win over the Carolina Panthers (3-10), in which Brown came down with just four receptions for 43 yards, Brown was asked what the Eagles’ offense can improve on. Brown replied, “Passing,” and it’s easy to see that’s in reference to Hurts, who threw for a season-low 108 yards — his third consecutive game throwing for under 200 yards.

14-year veteran Brandon Graham gave insight to the drama between Hurts and Brown during a Monday appearance on 94 WIP. Graham, out for the rest of the season with a triceps tear, said “They were friends before this, but things have changed.”

“The person that’s complaining needs to be accountable,” Graham said. “I’m just being honest; You know what I’m saying? He knows this. I don’t know the whole story, but I know that 1 [Hurts] is trying and I mean, 11 [Brown] could be a little better with how he responds to things. And they were friends before this, but things have changed. And I understand that because life happens. It’s the business side that we have to make sure that we don’t let the personal get in the way of the business. And that’s what we gotta do better right now because we know it’s an issue.

“Everybody’s saying some things, but we need to be able to talk things out as men. But we need to let personal stuff go, and let’s get right for this game. Most of the time, it’s just a conversation that needs to be had. But the person with the problem gotta want to talk to the person other than others. That’s all I’m saying.”

Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown working through connection amid nine-game winning streak

Brown was visibly frustrated during the game, throwing his helmet at one point after the Eagles went three and out. He called it “incredibly tough” to get in a rhythm when the offense isn’t passing the ball much, per Tim McManus of ESPN. Philadelphia owns the league’s 31st ranked passing offense, instead relying heavily on running back Saquon Barkley. Barkley rushed for 124 yards against Carolina, now up to 1,623 on the season.

Hurts was the first to admit his play hasn’t been up to standard this season.

“I think [the Panthers] did a good job; I think we did a bad job,” Hurts said of the passing game. “That starts with me, how I execute. Ultimately, you yearn and I yearn for better synchronization, for a more complimentary style of ball, in a sense.

“You know, some things don’t get you until it gets you. And there’s definitely been some urgency there, trying to figure it out. And got to keep climbing and trying to progress.”

As for getting on the same page with Brown and the other wideouts, Jalen Hurts had a one-word answer when asked if that should still be an issue at this point in the season.

“No,” Hurts said. “I’ll just say no.”
