So close, yet so far away. One Atlanta Braves fan was on the verge of an impressive upset this week, nearly defeating The Freeze in a footrace. Unfortunately, that individual fell short.

Literally.

Defeating The Freeze in a race is no easy task. Yet one fan on Thursday came incredibly close to doing the unthinkable. But as he approached the finish line — and as The Freeze closed in — the fan lost his footing and fell face first into the dirt.

Nobody can say that fan didn’t leave it all on the field. His glasses flew off of his face and he dirtied up what appeared to be a pretty nice Braves shirt. All in the name of competition.

Fans racing The Freeze is a regular occurrence at Truist Park in Atlanta. And while fans start out with a sizable advantage, it’s rare that the sprinting champion ever gets defeated.

One fan attempted to put his name in the record books on Thursday. It just didn’t pan out the way he had hoped.

Braves fan joins Reds grounds crew member in embarrassing moment

The unlucky Braves fan wasn’t the only one to stumble recently in an MLB setting and face an embarrassing moment. A member of the Cincinnati Reds grounds crew also had an unfortunate incident during a rain delay.

Last week, the Reds grounds crew rushed onto the field to cover the infield with tarp during a rain delay in a game between San Francisco and Cincinnati. About midway through the covering process, one member of the crew lost his footing, slipped and fell.

Because the grounds crew moves so quickly, nobody really noticed and the individual who fell got lost underneath the tarp. Cameras captured that moment, as well as his eventual escape from the large covering.

The broadcast team seemed to have a little too much fun at this person’s expense. But, we’ll admit, it was pretty funny to see the moving bubble from underneath the tarp attempt to find his way out.

So, you’ve got company, unfortunate Braves fan. Sometimes, your embarrassing moment gets captured on camera. It happens to the best of us.

Fortunately, neither the Braves fan nor the Reds grounds crew member seemed to suffer from any major injuries. Their egos and confidence might’ve taken a little bit of a hit, but in a few days, everyone will forget all about both incidents.

Hopefully.
