Brett Favre on Aaron Rodgers, Minnesota Vikings fit: 'By all means, sign with them'

Brett Favre suggested Aaron Rodgers to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, when asked about a potential fit. Ironically, Favre walked the same path as his replacement with the Green Bay Packers.
The Hall of Fame quarterback had a weird and perhaps ugly ending to his time in Green Bay by retiring and unretiring as the team finally transitioned to Rodgers. After one year with the New York Jets, Favre made his way to Minnesota and played with the Vikings for two years.
Rodgers, after two years with the Jets, is a free agent once again. The Vikings, as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants have had reported interest or the QB has been linked to the franchise.
“By all means, sign with them,” Favre said to Will Cain on Fox News. “They’ve got a really good football team. They’re loaded at pretty much every position.”
At the age of 40, Favre elevated the Vikings when he joined in 2009. Arguably the best season of his career as a passer, Favre threw for 4,202 yards, 33 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a career high 68.4% completion percentage.
Rodgers, while the Jets were 5-12, had a solid season statistically, all things concerned, in 2024. He threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and a 63% completion percentage.
The Vikings went 14-3 last season, losing in the NFC Wild Card round to the Los Angeles Rams. But with the offensive pieces, such as Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison at wide receiver, Rodgers is in a position to succeed. Not to mention Kevin O’Connell running the offense as he’s been a successful head coach during his time in Minnesota.

Like Favre, Rodgers is likely looking for one last gasp at postseason glory. Favre won the Super Bowl in 1996 and returned the next year, but lost. Not only that, he made numerous NFC Championship Games, including in 2009 with the Vikings, coming up short in overtime against the New Orleans Saints.
Could Rodgers be the stop gap option in 2025 before they turn to JJ McCarthy, their first round QB out of Michigan?
Last week, Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz reported the Vikings could pursue Rodgers if Sam Darnold were to leave free agency. Now that Darnold signed with the Seattle Seahawks, perhaps it’s a possibility.
It’s no secret Rodgers is at the tail end of his career. In the right situation Rodgers, 41, might be able to throw out one more great season before it’s all said and done.
