Carolina Panthers star linebacker Brian Burns was added to their injury report on Thursday afternoon, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. He was a limited participant due to an elbow injury. Burns currently leads the team with four sacks, so it’d be a major loss if he can’t play. The Panthers also placed Yetur Gross-Matos on injured reserve earlier in the week.

We’ll know more about Burns’ availability for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans once Friday practice rolls around.

Other players that landed on the Panthers injury report on Thursday were safety Vonn Bell (quad) and wide receiver Laviska Shenault, Jr. (ankle). Both of those players were ruled out of practice for the second day in a row. Carolina right tackle Taylor Moton (knee, rest) was given Thursday off. Guard Austin Corbett (knee), linebacker Frankie Luvu (hip), and safety Xavier Woods (hamstring) were the other limited practice participants for the Panthers on Thursday.

The Carolina Panthers have been active on the trade market

“The Carolina Panthers have been actively calling as buyers and sellers over the last few weeks,” Russini reported. “Carolina permitted wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. to seek a trade and will listen on safety Jeremy Chinn. The young safety is dealing with a quad injury that could get him back on the field by December, a team source shared with The Athletic. This injury could make a trade undesirable for another team, but the player is still considered available.

“As for the best Panthers pass rusher Brian Burns, I do not get the sense Carolina is expecting to trade him, but they have been getting calls on him. My colleague Joe Person has also reported that cornerback Donte Jackson is getting some interest around the league. More on the Panthers from their owner below.

When Marshall was drafted with the No. 59 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, some believed he could develop into a star wide receiver for Carolina. Whether it’s been the uneven quarterback play or coaching changes, it simply hasn’t come together for Marshall, as he’s only amassed 45 receptions for 628 receiving yards and a touchdown in his career.

Perhaps a change of scenery would be what Marshall needs, and he could be had relatively cheap, considering the numbers he’s put up in his time with the team.

As for the defensive side of the football, Chinn and Jackson have both been impressive, and would be valuable pieces wherever they’re traded to. As for Burns, Panthers fans won’t want to see him go, but the threat of him not signing a long-term contract with the team still looms large.

Nevertheless, nothing is off the table when you’re playing as bad as Carolina has been in 2023. Time will tell, but a myriad of moves could be coming for the Panthers.
