LSU coach Brian Kelly may have revealed which team will select Jayden Daniels when the NFL Draft takes place next month. While speaking to reporters during LSU’s Pro Day, Kelly said that Daniels will be making plays for the Washington Commanders.

“He’s going to be so committed to taking care of himself,” Kelly said about Daniels. “You don’t have to worry about size or he doesn’t weigh enough. Lamar [Jackson] has done a pretty good job with his size. I think [Patrick] Mahomes I wouldn’t consider him a giant. He’s gonna get the ball out to the playmakers and make plays for Washington.”

Kelly may have accidentally said Washington at the end, but it’s very likely the Commanders take Daniels at No. 2 overall. Mel Kiper has Daniels going to Washington in his latest mock draft, and Daniels talked about possibly being a Commander at his Pro Day.

“It’s a great feeling to be blessed enough to be picked that high,” Daniels told NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, per Commanders Wire. “Obviously, what they’re doing is they’ve got a new regime and everything like that. As the process goes on, we’ll have more conversations with everything, but from there, it’s just getting into that work. Whoever drafts me, an organization that believes in me and thinks I can lead them to Super Bowls.”

Jayden Daniels wants to be the top pick

Daniels has a memorable 2023 season at LSU. In 12 games, Daniels thew for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns and just four interceptions. Daniels was named SEC Offensive Player of the Year and won nearly every major national award, including the Heisman Trophy.

Being drafted No. 2 overall would be big for Daniels. But he would love to go No. 1 overall, a pick heled by the Chicago Bears.  For me, it’s just how dynamic I am as a football player — not just as a quarterback, but as a football player,” Daniels said. “Explosive plays, that’s a big thing in the game of football, explosive plays will win. So the tape speaks for itself.

“Everybody’s going to make their own decision, and they’re going to go out there and choose who they want to choose. But whoever gets me is going to get a hard worker, explosive player and someone who’s ready to learn.”
