Brian Robinson Jr. injury update: Commanders make final decision on RB after pregame workout
Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson is inactive for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants, per Adam Schefter.
Brian Robinson was able to play in the last two games for Washington after he missed the game against Baltimore with an injury. Each of those was a game that Washington was able to win while Robinson led the Commanders in rushing both games.
Coming into the day, the Commanders expected Robinson to play. However, following a pregame workout that went poorly, the team decided he would be unable to play.
Shortly after the news broke that Robinson would be inactive, he took to social media, and posted, “I’ll be back stronger.”
The injury that forced Robinson to miss the game against Baltimore was a knee issue. However, it was unclear what the exact issue that Robinson was dealing with was at the time. The Commanders lost that game. It was their second and most recent loss of the 2024 season.
The injury issue keeping Brian Robinson out for the game against the Giants appears to be a separate hamstring issue, per Dan Graziano.

The running game was shut down by Baltimore without Brian Robinson to lean on. Quarterback Jayden Daniels led the Commanders in rushing that game. He had 22 yards but has been dealing with a rib injury of his own that could limit how much he runs and how many hits he’s willing to take. Running back Austin Ekeler had nine carries against Baltimore, which was the most of any player for Washington, but for just 21 yards. He’s expected to once again be the primary ball carrier for Washington.
This season, Brian Robinson has 461 yards on 101 attempts, which leads the Commanders. That’s 4.6 yards per attempt. He also has six rushing touchdowns on the season.
Daniels is second on Washington in rushing with 424 yards on the season. Ekeler is third, rushing for 240 yards on 39 attempts, which is an impressive 6.2 yards per carry. Jeremy McNichols, Marcus Mariota, and Terry McClaurin are the only other Commanders to carry the ball this season. Of those three, only McNichols is listed as a running back.
This season, the New York Giants have had trouble against the run. The Giants have given up 1,134 rushing yards this season. That’s on 209 attempts against them for 5.4 yards per carry, which is 27th in the NFL in rush defense.
