Brian Schottenheimer 'expects' Micah Parsons at next week’s mandatory minicamp amid contract drama

If Micah Parsons is in attendance at next ’s mandatory minicamp for the Dallas Cowboys, it likely won’t be with a lucrative extension from the franchise. However, Brian Schottenheimer isn’t expecting a holdout at the moment.
The Cowboys coach told ESPN’s Todd Archer that he’s expecting Parsons to be at next week’s mandatory minicamp. He’s been in contact with his star defender, and it’s evident their relationship is in a good place at the moment, despite Parsons wanting a new deal.
“Brian Schottenheimer said he expects Micah Parsons to be at next week’s mandatory minicamp,” Archer posted on X. “Schottenheimer said he has been in contact with Parsons, who has been traveling. Players can be fined for missing next week’s camp.”
As you can tell, it feels like matter of when, not if this deal will get done for Parsons. He wants to be in Dallas, and the Cowboys would love to keep him happy. A ton of money will do that.
Moreover, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported as much earlier this offseason. While he doesn’t believe Parsons will step onto the field in the regular season without a new deal, the ink should be dry for the defensive star in Dallas way before then.

“I would say that, eventually, both sides will figure out that deal and get it done,” Schefter said via Shan & RJ on Dallas’ 105.3 The Fan earlier this offseason. “That would be my guess. There’s so much money involved and Dallas is going to want to keep him; he’s going to want to stay.
“When you’re talking about $40+ million a year, or whatever the number is, why are you ever stepping foot on a football field until that deal is done? To me, they’ll figure out a way to get that deal done because the stakes are just too great not to.”
At the moment, Parsons has one more season remaining on his rookie contract, a fifth-year option Dallas previously picked up. Parsons finished the 2024 season with 43 total tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 12 sacks. He has tallied double digit sacks in each of his four NFL seasons, totaling 52.5.
His day in the sun is coming, and Micah Parsons will soon be the highest paid defensive player in the league, most likely. Brian Schottenheimer is confident, and that should excite Cowboys fans across the nation, as well.
