British Olympic Swimmer Adam Peaty sounded off on the Paris Games for the food not being up to par. While speaking to INews, Peaty revealed that worms were discovered in the fish provided to the athletes.

“I like my fish and people are finding worms in the fish,” Peaty said, per TMZ Sports. “It’s just not good enough. The standard, we’re looking at the best of the best in the world, and we’re feeding them not the best.”

Peaty (thankfully) did not have any photos of the fish. But a Paris spokesperson said they are taking the feedback seriously, saying their food vendor has been “working proactively to adapt supplies to the growing use of the Olympic Village restaurants, as well as to the actual consumption by athletes observed over the first few days,” per TMZ.

Peaty added that the food at previous Olympics was much better than what he’d seen in Paris. “Tokyo, the food was incredible, Rio was incredible,” he stated. “But this time around, there wasn’t enough protein options, long queues, waiting 30 minutes for food because there’s no queuing system.”

Paris organizers pledged to make 60 percent of the meals meat-free in a sustainability push. That doesn’t sit well with Peaty who said he needs to eat meat to be successful.

“The narrative of sustainability has just been punished on the athletes. I want to eat meat, I need meat to perform and that’s what I eat at home, so why should I change?” Peaty said.

Adam Peaty to take time away from swimming

Despite the reported questionable food at the Paris Olympics, Peaty will not leave the Games empty-handed as he won the silver medal for the 100-meter breaststroke. It’s his sixth Olympic medal, claiming two in Rio and three in Tokyo. Peaty is also an eight-time World Champion, a 16-time European Champion and a four-time Commonwealth Champion.

In an interview with Sportsbeat, Peaty said he’s going to take some time away from swimming before deciding on his future. “Tomorrow is never promised and if my heart wants it my heart wants it, and I will sign that contract with myself to do it,” he said.

“That could be a long way away, but I think I’ve got to step away from the sport because it hurt too much this time. I’m going to take some time off everything, and I don’t really know what the answer is. I’m taking time, if my family needs me, they need me. I don’t know, you can’t lie to your heart but if it wants it, it wants it.”
