Britney Spears files police report after Victor Wembanyama security allegedly assaulted her
The San Antonio Spurs are quite serious about protecting their new draft pick Victor Wembanyama, even from world-famous pop stars.
According to TMZ, Wembanyama was in the same restaurant as Britney Spears, who is apparently a big basketball fan. So much so, that she tried to go over and speak with Wembanyama. However, as she approached him and tapped him on the shoulder, a Spurs security member put an immediate and violent stop to her contact with Wembanyama by slapping her so hard she fell down and lost her glasses.
Per TMZ, here’s how it went down:
“Britney and co. walked over to Catch, and as they were entering the restaurant, Britney spotted Victor. We’re told she’s a fan and went over to him to ask if they could take a photo together. She tapped him on his back right shoulder and we’re told the Director of Team Security for the San Antonio Spurs instantly backhanded her, causing her to fall to the ground, knocking her glasses off.”
The event took place in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Wednesday night, just two nights before Victor Wembanyama is set to make his official NBA Summer League debut Friday evening at 7 p.m.
In the aftermath of the assault, Spears has filed a police report, per TMZ. They also wrote that Britney stayed at the restaurant and was seated at her table afterwards, where the Spurs security member found her to apologize, issuing the following excuse for his strike: “You understand how it is when you’re being swarmed by fans.”
But even after the apology, Spears and her team “filed a police report with the Metropolitan Police Dept. alleging battery,” according to TMZ.
It’s important to remember that security guards are not law enforcement and therefore are not protected from assault charges any more than the common person. According to the National Law Review, a very reputable legal journal, security guards are not immune from the law should they harm someone while doing their job.

“While guards can provide safety and deter criminal activity, there are situations when the guard causes harm and even death to a person. In these circumstances, the injury victim can pursue a civil lawsuit against the guard. These cases can result in significant compensation.”
Given that we’re talking about a true cultural icon in Britney Spears, with fans around the world, and an NBA organization, this lawsuit could become expensive pretty quick.
Update
TMZ later updated the story to report that the man who committed the act was, in fact, the Director of Team Security for the Spurs.
TMZ tweeted out:
“#UPDATE: Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, the man listed on the police report as the one who slapped Britney Spears is Damian Smith, the Director of Team Security for the Spurs.”
