Brock Bowers shares conversation he had with Jim Harbaugh at NFL Combine
On Thursday, Georgia tight end Brock Bowers claimed he’s formally met with 15 NFL teams this week. One of those teams was the Los Angeles Chargers, led by newly-hired head coach Jim Harbaugh. During a press conference, Bowers detailed his meeting with Harbaugh and Co.
“I met with the Chargers the other night,” Bowers said. “Me and Coach Harbaugh were talking a little bit about when we played them in 2021 and when he was recruiting me and stuff. It was cool to see him again and good to talk to him.”
On Dec. 31, 2021, Georgia routed Michigan 34-11 in the College Football Playoff Semifinals. In the win, Bowers hauled in five passes for 55 yards and a touchdown. The standout performance was only a preview of the illustrious career ahead of Bowers.
In 10 games this season, Bowers tallied 56 catches, 714 receiving yards, six touchdowns, 12.8 yards per catch and six carries for 28 yards and a touchdown. In his career, Bowers boasted 175 catches, 2,538 yards, 26 touchdowns, 14.5 yards per catch, 19 carries, 193 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns.
Bowers was a four-star recruit out of Napa (Calif.) High, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. At the time, Harbaugh was the head coach at Michigan and heavily recruited Bowers.
Joel Klatt sings Brock Bowers’ praises
While Bowers ultimately landed in Athens, he now could potentially return to his home state. FOX Sports’ Joel Klatt certainly believes the Chargers could benefit from adding the highly-touted TE. On Monday, Klatt raved about Bowers, listing him as his No. 2 pass-catcher in this draft.

“Brock Bowers impacts the game every time he’s on the field – whether it’s third down, whether it’s red zone. This guy is an impact player,” Klatt said. “He’s fast, he’s a matchup nightmare and he plays a position that is highly valuable.
“This is one of the best college tight ends that I’ve seen in a long time,” Klatt continued. “He’s 6’4, 240 pounds. He’s physical, he’s fast, he catches the ball beautifully and smooth. He plays a position that I value very much. Why? Because that’s who wins championships – teams that have players like Brock Bowers.”
Klatt continued, claiming if Bowers is still on the board when the Los Angeles Chargers are up with pick No. 5, Harbaugh will draft him.
“I don’t think he gets past Jim Harbaugh at five. I think the Chargers and, in particular, Jim Harbaugh understand the value of not just the tight end but of this tight end,” Klatt said. “It’s not just about being the best tight end in draft. It’s about being this guy and Brock Bowers is that guy.”
