The salaries for NFL quarterbacks have skyrocketed in the past few years. And they seem to be not slowing down at all. On Wednesday evening, Jordan Schultz of FOX reported the latest buzz on contract negotiations for 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. Purdy and San Francisco are in contract talks, working on a long-term deal. The deal is expected to land somewhere in the $50-55 million per year range, according to Schultz.

Purdy’s production on the field this year wasn’t as good as his 2023 campaign. He completed 65.9% of his passes for 3,864 passing yards, while tossing in 20 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. In 2023, Purdy enjoyed a breakout season, completing 69.4% of his passes for 4,280 passing yards, while throwing 31 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. As a runner, he had 39 carries for 144 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

For his career thus far, Purdy has completed 67.5% of his passes for 9,518 passing yards, while tossing in 64 touchdowns and tossing in 27 interceptions. He earned Pro Bowl honors in 2023 as well as becoming the league’s passing rating leader.

As a rookie in 2022, he made the PFWA All-Rookie team. During his college career with the Iowa State Cyclones, Purdy put up pretty impressive numbers, finishing completing 67.7% of his passes for 12,170 passing yards, while tossing in 81 touchdowns with 33 interceptions. As a runner, he had 365 carries for 1,177 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns.

The best season he led ISU to came in 2020, when the Cyclones finished 9-3 overall. It was tied for the best record in program history, and they also had a No. 9 national ranking at one point. It was the highest school ranking since 1895. In their Fiesta Bowl win over Oregon, he passed and rushed for a touchdown in a 34-17 victory.
