Brooklyn Nets select Egor Demin in 2025 NBA Draft

The professional basketball dream has come true for Egor Demin. With the No. 8 overall pick in the first round of the 2025 NBA Draft, the former BYU star guard was selected by the Brooklyn Nets.
The Moscow, Russia native came to America and starred with the Cougars throughout the 2024-25 season. The team made a bit of a run in the 2025 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. He averaged 10.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 5.5 assists during his time with BYU.
Additionally, Demin was a more-than-solid recruit. He played high school basketball in Moscow, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 154 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
As he moves to the next level, Demin will be expected to continue to grow and elevate into a capable player in the NBA. After showcasing his skillset during his freshman season with BYU, there’s no reason to think he can’t achieve that goal.
Time will tell what his ceiling is. Regardless, Egor Demin will have a chance to not just be a good NBA player, but a great one, as he moves to the next level in this journey.

“Egor Demin enters the NBA Draft as the best passer in the class, combining vision with creativity which at times led to turnovers when it crossed the line,” Fletcher III wrote. “However, the inability to repeat his 3-point success from early into the latter portion of the season forces teams to consider how many ways he can create offense. Given his size, off-ball reps are also an interesting possibility for any interested team.”
Additionally, Fletcher III is far from the only one grinning at the idea of seeing Demin in the NBA. RotoWire.com made projections for many of the top prospects, and it’s evident they’re believers in his potential.
“Demin projects as a floor general at the NBA level, someone who can organize the offense and set up his teammates,” RotoWire.com wrote. “How far he can go beyond that will depend on his shooting development.
“His size will always be an advantage, however, and other players have made it work despite minimal 3-point skills. Comparisons can be drawn to a player like Josh Giddey and Anthony Black.”
